FAQ
smart:comp 3’s Input Riding adjusts the signal level before compression to improve how the compressor reacts. pure:level, on the other hand, stabilizes the signal itself and places it in the mix using a target level - without applying compression or changing the signal’s dynamics.
Classical level riders adjust gain dynamically around a target level, so changing the target also changes how the riding behaves and can influence the signal’s dynamics.
pure:level separates level stabilization from mix placement: It first stabilizes the signal around its natural average level and then applies a static gain offset to reach the desired target. This means you can reposition a track in the mix without altering its dynamic behavior.
In addition, pure:level offers a built-in group feature that allows multiple instances to share a target level, making it easy to position related tracks such as vocal stacks together while each track is still stabilized individually.
sonible’s smart and pure plug-in series both use AI-powered processing, but they are designed for different workflows and user needs.
Advanced, in-depth control for professionals who want maximum flexibility. These plug-ins feature detailed parameter adjustments, customizable profiles and adaptive learning to fine-tune audio processing.
Streamlined and intuitive tools for quick, high-quality results. These plug-ins are designed for creators who want great sound with minimal tweaking, featuring simple controls and automatic processing based on sonible’s AI technology.
If you prefer deep customization, the smart series is the way to go. If you want fast, professional results without diving into complex settings, the pure series is your perfect match.
When de-essing, pure:deess analyzes the signal’s actual content – not just the level of one or multiple frequency bands – to make decisions. Since each person has their own voice characteristics, pure:deess asks you to playback some audio to learn a short vocal fingerprint. This vocal fingerprint – we also call it voiceprint – is like a fingerprint of the vocal characteristics of the analyzed person. Once a voice has been analyzed, pure:deess adapts its internal processing to match the observed characteristics.
When working with a new speaker or singer, you should therefore always re-analyze the signal to make sure that the processing adapts accordingly.
pure:deess was not designed to reduce the harshness of instruments. Unlike conventional de-essers, pure:deess does not simply look at the signal energy in specific frequency regions - but the plug-in actually identifies the exact position of individual sibilants (e.g. S, Z, SH, CH, ...) and plosives (e.g. P, T, K, ...). Obviously, this detection of phonemes only works for voice and pure:deess will not be able to detect and process any (meaningful) phonemes in instruments.
Select the signal type of the sidechain signal as the profile for pure:unmask. The plug-in can then focus the unmasking on frequency regions that are most relevant for this signal type.
For example, if the sidechain signal is a kick, pure:unmask will put a high priority on unmasking the low end and if the sidechain signal is a vocal track, pure:unmask will create space in frequency regions that are critical for a clean vocal sound.
If you can't find your instrument in the list, use the profile that best matches the sound characteristics, or use the Universal profile.
