What’s the difference between smart:comp 3's Input Riding and pure:level?

smart:comp 3’s Input Riding adjusts the signal level before compression to improve how the compressor reacts. pure:level, on the other hand, stabilizes the signal itself and places it in the mix using a target level - without applying compression or changing the signal’s dynamics.

How do I locate the plug-in files on my system (Mac or Windows)?

Since our plug-ins do not function as standalone apps, you will need a host software (digital audio workstation, DAW) to use them.

For them to be listed, you must point your DAW to your plug-in folder. If you did not specify a custom location during the installation process, you can find your plug-ins in the following locations:

In which DAWs do sonible plug-ins work?

You can use our plug-ins in any DAW/host that supports AU, VST2, VST3 or AAX for Mac or VST2, VST3 or AAX for Windows. We test our plug-ins prior to any release or update extensively with the latest versions of the following DAWs.

Do I really need to pick an instance profile?

Yes. smart:chain does not know which instruments are playing on a track. Choosing a profile primes the intelligent processing for what audio material to expect and react accordingly - which frequency regions to emphasize, how to set up the compressor and, most notably, how loud the instance should be in the final mix when using Auto Leveling. smart:chain’s profiles are NOT presets, they fundamentally change what the processing is doing. This does mean that the setup of a large project can require a lot of clicking, but the results will be worth it.

I can’t find a suitable profile for my audio material, what do I do?

If you can’t find a profile that exactly matches your audio material, try to find something that might sound similar and take a similar role in a mix. For example, some of our customers have had good results choosing the ‘Synth Lead’ profile for trumpet tracks, because of the relatively similar frequency distribution, dynamics and role in the mix.
